49ers vs Rams Highlights

Tonight (Mon., October 13, 2014) the San Francisco 49ers rolled into St. Louis to take on NC West rival Rams and surprising young quarterback Austin Davis.

San Francisco sat at 3-2 after two straight wins over Kansas City and Philadelphia. They had largely shrugged off mounting injuries and ton of off-the-field drama to pick up a win streak.

St. Louis, on the other hand, while 1-3, had apparently found a gem in the still-developing Davis, who got his chance when Sam Bradford and Shaun Hill went down with injuries.

At home on Monday night, Davis got the party started early with a long and impressive drive that was capped off by a short touchdown run by running back Benny Cunningham (courtesy of Vine):

The Rams added to their lead with this smooth touchdown pass from Davis to tight end Lance Kendricks (Vine):

San Francisco added a field goal from Phil Dawson, and St. Louis drove the field to threaten again. But a very questionable pass interference penalty on Jared Cook forced the Rams to punt.

The 49ers capitalized with an incredible 80-yard scoring strike from Colin Kaepernick to Brandon Lloyd (Vine):

San Francisco closed the Rams’ lead to 14-10 going into the half. However, the 49ers took the lead on the very first drive of the second half, scoring on this amazing scramble and throw from Kaepernick to Anquan Boldin (Vine):

San Francisco extended their lead to 24-14 with  a 32-yard strike from Kaepernick to Michael Crabtree (Vine):

The 49ers nearly scored a fourth touchdown but were stopped on fourth down. They got the ball back and were stopped again, leading to a St. Louis field goal.

San Francisco recovered the onside kick but was held to a three and out and punted to the Rams. The game was iced only two plays later after Davis threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown to give San Francisco a 31-17 victory.
