Jaguars vs Chargers Highlights

The lowly Jacksonville Jaguars flew cross country to take on the San Diego Chargers today (Sun., September 28, 2014), and the contest featured the NFL debut of rookie quarterback Blake Bortles.

The No. 3 pick in May’s 2014 draft, it was thought to be a foregone conclusion that he would eventually start over veteran Chad Henne, but it wasn’t thought that he’d take over as soon as Week 3.

Regardless, Bortles was faced with the tough challenge of Chargers in his first game, and he did not disappoint after an early turnover. Bortles lead the Jags to a short touchdown by running back Toby Gerhardt that put them up 7-3.

San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers countered with this 47-yard touchdown to wide receiver Eddie Royal (courtesy of Vine):

Bortles fought back with another scoring rive, putting the Jaguars up 14-10 with his first-ever touchdown pass (Vine):

Rivers fought with fire once again, putting the Chargers up 17-14 with another long touchdown to Royal late in the first half (Vine):

Rivers came out hot at the start of the second half, throwing a perfect strike to Malcolm Floyd to put Chargers up 24-14 (Vine):

They added two field goals to go up 30-14 in the fourth quarter.
