NFL 2014 Week 3 Fantasy Rankings – Tight Ends

With the NFL further progressing as a passing league, tight ends continue to be more and more of a part of team gameplans.

That fact is also making them an integral part of fantasy success as well.

Here are the fantasy rankings for the Top 10 tight ends for Week 3 of the 2014 season:

1. Jimmy Graham:

The consensus week-in, week-out choice for The NFL’s top tight end, Graham had a big game in Week 2, catching two touchdowns in the Saints’ loss to the Cleveland Browns.

New Orleans has their home opener against the lowly Minnesota Vikings in Week 3, and Graham should be poised for an even bigger game.

2. Julius Thomas:

Thomas made a few mistakes in the Broncos’ narrow win over Kansas City in Week 2, but he still managed to score another touchdown to push his season total to four.

Thomas is tasked with the extremely tough match-up of playing the Seattle Seahawks in an away game in Week 3.

3. Zach Ertz:

Ertz has looked more than impressive in making several athletic catches this year while playing limited snaps.

It’s clear that he’s Philadelphia’s best tight end by a long shot, and he should be in line for a bigger workload when Philly hosts Washington in Week 3.

4. Rob Gronkowski:

Gronkowski is still trying to get back to one hundred percent after  his season-ending knee surgery last year.

He’s been on a snap count so far this year, but if he can start getting on the field more, he has the potential to blow up more than any tight end not named Jimmy Graham.

5. Greg Olsen:

Olsen is a reliable option who could be relied upon even more as Cam Newton struggles to get back to full health.

The Panthers will take on the declining Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3 on Sunday Night Football, and Olsen should put up good numbers once again.

6. Antonio Gates:

Gates continues to defy time by amassing big stats in 2014. He caught an incredible three touchdowns against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.

The Chargers are set to take on the undefeated Buffalo Bills in Week 3, but their pass defense is nothing special.

Gates could put up another big game as quarterback Philip Rivers’ favorite target.

7. Martellus Bennett:

Bennett is a tall, physical tight end with a spectacular supporting cast.

Chicago will take on the putrid New York Jets secondary on Monday Night Football, and he should see several targets and opportunities to score a touchdown.

8. Kyle Rudolph:

With Minnesota missing running back Adrian Peterson, the Vikings’ offense has taken a hit overall.

Still, Rudolph continues to run more routes out of the slot than most NFL tight ends, and he remains a top red zone target. If the Vikings can find a way to score, there’s a good chance that Rudolph will be the beneficiary.

9. Dennis Pitta:

Pitta, a favorite target of Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, had a lot of his points poached by backup Owen Daniels in the team’s blowout win over Pittsburgh in Week 2.

That most likely won’t continue, and Pitta should get his looks when the Ravens travel into Cleveland tomorrow.

10. Jordan Cameron:

Cameron injured his shoulder making an impressive 47-yard catch in the season opener, and now he’s slated to return in Week 3.

He doesn’t have the easiest match-up with Baltimore coming to town, yet he remains a favorite target of quarterback Brian Hoyer, who has the longest streak of passes thrown without an interception.

A healthy Cameron could put forth an effort worthy of a much higher spot.
