Knowshon Moreno Probable To Return In Week 6

After suffering a dislocated elbow in a Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno was given a timetable of 4-8 weeks to return.

Today (Fri., October 10, 2014) it looks like he’ll be back towards the very bottom of that spectrum. Miami Herald columnist Armando Salguero, citing the Dolphins’ team injury report, reported that Moreno would indeed be active when the Dolphins host the streaking Green Bay Packers in Week 6:

It’s unclear as to what kind of a role Moreno will have in his first game back, as he was officially limited today and has reportedly been having problems practicing with a bulky elbow brace.

Backup Lamar Miller has played well in his absence, averaging 5.7 yards per carry but fumbling away a few opportunities as well. The Green Bay defense isn’t exactly the best in terms of stopping the run, meaning that Moreno could potentially rack up a ton of yards if given the chance.

But with Miller available, it’s most likely in the team’s (and Moreno’s) best interest to ease him back into the lineup given the relative severity of his injury.

Moreno was signed over from the Denver Broncos after having a career year in 2013. He showed flashes of brilliance in his only full game in Miami, rushing 24 times for 134 yards in the Dolphins’ surprising Week 1 win over the New England Patriots. He had only one carry for four yards before getting hurt in Week 2.

Despite Miller’s effectiveness in relief, Moreno is clearly the team’s lead back, and they paid him to be just that.

Last week he teased that his return was another four weeks away, but obviously that’s not the case. Will he overcome his cumbersome elbow brace to continue improving against Green Bay, or is his true return still a few weeks away?
