Dez Bryant ‘Making Progress’ In Contract Negotiations With Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver Dez Bryant is one of the NFL’s best pass catchers, so it’s no surprise that he wants to be paid like one. Heading into a pivotal 2014 season that will most likely decide Dallas head coach Jason Garrett’s future with the team, the Cowboys and Bryant are reportedly engaged in contract discussions right now.

According to a report from, Bryant told the Fort Worth Star Telegram there is a “big chance” that he gets a new contract signed before the season:

“I honestly feel like what I do, sooner or later, I’m going to get what I deserve,” Bryant said. “I believe it. That’s why I don’t stress about it. There’s no need to stress about it. It’s coming. I know it’s coming, so no need to worry about it.”

Bryant feels that he is one of the top five receivers in the game, and he just wants what he deserves:

“I believe a player should get paid what he deserves,” Bryant said. “If I’m top five, I’m top five. If I’m top three, I’m top three. If I’m top two, I’m top two. It is what it is.”

Earlier today a report from’s Ian Rapoport said the two sides were making progress, but a deal was yet to be reached:

Bryant said he isn’t happy about waiting, but knows it is all part of the game:

“Do I like the wait? No, but do I understand the wait? Yeah, I understand it. I understand it clearly,” Bryant said. “But at the same time, the No. 1 goal for me is me out here with my teammates, going to war with them. That’s exactly what I’m focused on.”

There’s no doubt that the Cowboys will lock up their star sometime soon. The dangerous wideout from Oklahoma State is poised for a huge season. Will he be playing it without the burden of unfinished contract talks hanging over his head?
