When Carolina Panthers star quarterback Cam Newton went down with an injury in his team’s Week 3 preseason loss to the New England Patriots last Friday night (August 22, 2014), there was more than a little bit of concern for his health.

After all, Newton is still not one hundred percent from offseason surgery to tighten his ankle; and he added a hairline fracture in some of his ribs to his list of ailments. Still, speculation was that Newton would still be ready or the team’s Week 1 regular season game on September 7, and today, “Superman” has confirmed that himself.

Speaking to Joe Person of The Carolina Observer, Newton said that there is “no doubt in his mind” that he’ll be on the field in Week 1:

The news should allow Panthers fan to breath a collective sigh of relief, as their team’s success in the NFC South basically rests upon the arm and legs of the ultra-talented Newton.

His injury is one that NFL quarterbacks often play through, choosing to manage the pain with the team’s training staff rather than take any time off.

The Panthers will take on the revamped Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a Week 1 divisional clash, and all signs point to Newton being ready to go for the match-up. Despite his injuries, Carolina coach Ron Rivera also said that the play packages for Newton would not be limited in order to take advantage of his full skillset.
