2014 Week 2 Fantasy Rankings – Tight Ends

Today’s fast-paced NFL offenses are utilizing high-scoring tight ends now more than ever, making the position more crucial to success than ever.

Several of the top tight ends put forth solid efforts in Week 1, some left something to be desired, and some new names even came out of the woodwork.

Here are the Top 10 tight ends for fantasy in Week 2:

1.) Jimmy Graham, New Orleans Saints:

Still head and shoulders above the rest of the league at the position, Graham underwhelmed a bit with “only” 84 yards receiving in the Saints’ Week 1 loss to Atlanta.

With New Orleans traveling to Cleveland, Graham should find the end zone against the Browns’ suspect defense, and he could put up even bigger numbers.

2.) Julius Thomas, Denver Broncos:

Thomas made a strong case for being the NFL’s best by racking up over 100 yards and an incredible three scores in the Bronco’s Week 1 win over Indianapolis.

The Chiefs will travel into Denver in Week 2, and Thomas’ hot run should continue.

3.) Vernon Davis, San Francisco 49ers:

Longtime veteran Davis who caught two touchdowns in San Francisco’s dominant win over the Dallas Cowboys.

The Chicago Bears will come into the 49ers’ brand new stadium in Week 2, and their defense will have hard time containing Davis for the whole game.

4.) Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots:

Gronkowski had a solid comeback game by coring a touchdown in Week 1, but the Patriots lost to the Miami Dolphins in an upset.

The Pats will head into Minnesota to take on a disheveled Vikings team who is currently dealing with the Adrian Peterson scandal. The stage is set for big numbers from the Patriots’ big tight end.

5.) Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles:

Ertz got his second year started right by recording 76 yards and one touchdown in the Eagle’s come-from-behind win over the Jaguars.

Against an Indianapolis defense that allowed three touchdowns to Julius Thomas in Week 1, Ertz will have a chance to emerge as a top tight end on the grand stage of Monday Night Football.

6.) Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers:

Olsen put up some big numbers in the Panthers’ away win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1, catching a touchdown from backup quarterback Derek Anderson.

With starter Cam Newton back in the fold to face the Lions in Week 2, Olsen should be in line for another big workload with Carolina having another target in rookie wideout Kelvin Benjamin.

7.) Kyle Rudolph, Minnesota Vikings:

Rudolph was solid but not spectacular in Week 1, recording few yards but finding the end zone.

With Peterson out when the Patriots come into town this weekend, Rudolph should be focused on even more than usual, potentially making him a top scorer at the position.

8.) Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys:

Witten’s performance against the 49ers last week was basically indicative of his team’s. He recorded a mere 2 catches for 14 yards, and those are numbers that are rarely seen from a crafty veteran like Witten.

The Cowboys will travel into Tennessee to take on the Titans in Week 2, and the potential for Witten to bounce back is there. But his performance will mainly hinge on how effective Tony Romo is.

That’s a big if, but Witten still remains on of the best tight ends in the NFL.

9.) Martellus Bennett, Chicago Bears:

Bennett looked good in the Bears’ Week 1 loss to, scoring a touchdown in the unfortunate loss.

With Bears wideouts Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall potential out in the Bears’ away game at San Francisco, Bennett could be in for a massive workload.

10.) Dwayne Allen, Indianapolis Colts:

Allen showed incredible athleticism on a 43-yard touchdown in the Colts’ loss to Denver in Week 1.

With rising star Andrew Luck as his quarterback, Allen has a ton of potential to rise up this list.

That trend should continue against the weak Philadelphia Eagles in defense on Monday Night Football.
