A comprehensive performance with the bat and the ball helped Australia thrash South Africa by 7 wickets in the second T20I to square the series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday.

Earlier, South Africa were restricted to 101-7 in 20 overs, thanks to a supreme bowling performance from James Faulkner (3/25) and Cameron Boyce (2/15). Except skipper Jean-Paul Duminy (49), no other batsmen looked comfortable in stereotype Australian conditions.

In reply, Australia got off to a flying start as openers – Ben Dunk and Aaron Finch – joined 43 runs in 4.4 overs, before the former perished for 23.

Veteran all-rounder, Shane Watson, looked in good touch as he joined hands with Finch for a 49-run stand, eventually falling prey at 30.

Thereafter, star batsman Glenn Maxwell gave away his wicket by departing for a duck, before Finch (44*) ensured that the hosts pull off the target with 12.4 overs.

Both teams will vie for the series when they clash in the third and final T20I at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday.
