World Cup 2015: New Zealand Survive Scotland Scare, Win Low-Scoring Thriller
The dominance of the associates seems to have disseminated all its roots over the World Cup 2015. After witnessing a few massive upsets in the warm-up matches, the sport’s mega event saw Ireland pulling off a stunner against West Indies. On Tuesday, Scotland were about to follow in their footsteps, but eventually went on to lose to New Zealand by a whisker.
Facing one of the top favorites to win the coveted tournament in New Zealand, the Scots were oblivious in encountering a lethal kiwi bowling attack. Despite half-centuries from Matt Machan (56) and Richie Berrington (50), the minnows got all-out for a paltry 142.
However, the game was not over yet. They fought hard with the ball. Fast-bowlers Iain Wardlaw and Josh Davey reduced the co-hosts to 137-7, who eventually dodged a bullet by sneaking a rusty 3-wicket triumph.
Nonetheless, it was a spirited performance from Scotland, as the little-known teams continued to pester the Test-playing nations. As for New Zealand, they certainly need to get the things right ahead of their next encounter.
