MS Dhoni is not as good a batsman as he once used to be, one may say, but his wicket-keeping skills is just getting better and better.

The Indian veteran proved that by effecting a stunning run-out during the third ODI against Australia in his hometown of Ranchi on Saturday.

During the 42nd over of the first innings, Australia’s Shaun Marsh nudge one delivery off chinaman Kuldeep Yadav towards cover and set off for a quick single.

As it turned out, they took on the wrong fielder in Ravindra Jadeja, who is known for his rocket-like throws.

Jadeja fired one straight towards Dhoni, who then used one hand to have the ball deflected to the stumps.

And guess what? Marsh’s partner Glenn Maxwell was run-out.

The breakthrough seized the momentum as Australia – at one stage looking like they would get to 350, could only manage 313-5 in 50 overs.

And despite home captain Virat Kohli’s blazing century (123 off 95 balls), India fell short of the target by 32 runs as the visitors stayed alive in the five-match series.

The fourth ODI will be played in Mohali on Sunday.
