Sri Lanka secured T20I series against Australia

The Lions started the T20I series against Australia with victory and through the first match, they made one step closer to the series win. Sri Lanka just needed to make another victory out of the rest two matches to secure the series against Australia and they finally did it by winning the second match of the tournament as well. The second match between the Lions and Aussie was staged in 19th February, 2017 at Kardinia Park, Geelong where the Lions won the match by 2 wickets. And so, they have secured the series by 2 – 0. Now, there is still one match left but it will not chance the series result. In the last tournament against South Africa, the Lions also won the T20 series but lost Test and ODI series. Their upcoming third match against Australia will be staged in 22nd February, 2017 at Adelaide Oval.

The second T20I was also the day night competition and started just before the evening when Australia came to bat first at Kardinia Park by losing the toss. However, though they lost their first opener in just 18 runs but later in 2nd wicket partnership added almost 50 runs to the scoreboard. Finch was flop that day but Klinger, Dunk and Henriques played well. Henriques who was the skipper of Sydney Sixers in BBL 2016/17 scored highest 56 runs for the team where Klinger scored 43 and Dunk scored 32 runs so far. Rest players could not able to make two figure runs but getting all out by playing complete 20 overs. Henriques remained unbeaten in the match. So, at the end, team Aussie scored total 173 runs so far.

The Lions started to chase very poorly and lost their five wickets within 40 runs. When team score was just 40, they lost consecutive two wickets named Munaweera and Siriwardana. But, Gunaratne played well and almost dominated Australian bowlers. He played just 46 ball and scored 84 runs. He played the major role who led the team to victory. His best companion was Kapugedera. Once, when the Lions lost top five wickets, it seemed that they were going to lose but Gunaratne fought bravely and took the victory. Though, they also needed to play complete 20 overs to reach the destination and in the meantime, they lost total eight wickets. So, along with the match, the Lions successfully secured the series also by 2 – 0.
