Fast-bowler Rusty Theron, who represented South Africa in 4 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 9 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), has announced his retirement from all forms barring the T20 leagues, reported ESPNcricinfo.

The 30-year-old Theron, a pivotal player for the Chevrolet Warriors in the country’s domestic circuit, said that although the incessant knee injury has compelled him to call a time on his career, he intends to compete in tournaments like the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“After the CPL this year and a bothersome knee, I decided to focus on my studies for now. I will still be looking to forward to the CPL, IPL and some cricket in the UK as of next year when I have had some time to work on and settle the niggles that have bugged me for the last while,” he said.

Best known for his variations in the death overs that made him an economical seamer, Theron had 12 wickets each in the ODIs and T20Is. However, despite a decent record in his short-term career, his name was never invariable in the side.
