Ahead of the first Twenty20 International between hosts Bangladesh and South Africa at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday, a member of the visiting side – Wayne Parnell – reportedly received a threatening phone call from an anonymous number, according to ESPNcricinfo.

The 25-year-old Parnell was gearing up for the match in his hotel room when an unidentified caller terrifyingly rung on his phone and hurled abuses at him before the intelligence agencies were informed about the episode.

“Soon after the incident, we informed the intelligence agencies,” Bangladesh Cricket Board’s security consultant Hossain Imam told Kaler Kantho (via ESPNcricinfo). “They have been trying to trace the caller and from where the call was made.”

Parnell and his team, however, didn’t make the call have an adverse impact on their game as South Africa staged a clinical performance to pull off a convincing 52-run conquest.
