READ & WATCH: Virat Kohli and Tim Paine’s complete exchange during Perth Test
India captain Virat Kohli and his Australian counterpart Tim Paine continued to be at loggerheads as they had to be separated by on-field umpire on Day 4 of the Perth Test.
According to ESPNcricinfo, during the 71st over of Australia’s second innings, Paine appeared to be following Kohli for a couple of steps, prompting an exchange between the duo.
Kohli: “I’m not saying a word to you. Why are you getting riled up?”
Paine: “I’m fine. You are the one that lost it yesterday. Why are you trying to be cool today?”
Umpire Chris Gaffaney: “That’s enough, that’s enough.”
Paine: “We are allowed to talk.
Gaffaney: “Nah, nah, come on, play the game. You guys are the captains.”
Paine: “We can have a conversation. There’s no swearing.”
Gaffaney: “Tim, you are the captain.”
Paine: “Keep your cool, Virat!”
The verbal altercation comes a day after Kohli and Paine took a dig at one another. On Day 3, Kohli appealed for a caught-behind on Paine’s batting that was turned down.
“If he messes it up, it’s 2-0,” Kohli had said, referring to their 1-0 lead in the four-Test series.
The remark didn’t go down well with Paine, who said: “You’ve got to bat first, big head.”
Meanwhile, Australia amassed 243 runs on board, setting India up with a mountainous target of 287 runs.
Here’s how Paine had the last laugh after Kohli’s dismissal…
“Murali, I know he’s your captain but you can’t seriously like him as a bloke”
