Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews heaped praise on retiring countryman Kumar Sangakkara, touting him as the most consistent batsman in the cricket world.

The 37-year-old Sangakkara, who is all set to hang up his boots after the second of the upcoming three-match Test series against India, was highly eulogized by his team’s skipper ahead of the first encounter that begins on Wednesday.

“We are very thankful for Sanga the way he has performed over the last 15 years and he is easily the most consistent batsman I have seen,” Mathews was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

Mathews even opined that he hasn’t seen the legendary Donald Bradman play, but believes that Sangakkara’s consistency has been unprecedented.

“I haven’t seen the great Donald Bradman but Sanga is easily the most consistent batsman I’ve ever seen,” he continued.

“We learnt a lot from him up to now and he is ready to teach us and pass on his experience, and we have benefited a lot from him.”
