India not a Semi-Final Contender at World Cup 2015: Michael Hussey

Defending champions India may be one of the favorites to win the World Cup 2015, especially after their dominant start to the sport’s mega event. But for former Australian batsman Michael Hussey, India are not the semifinal contenders this time around.

“India are an exciting team as I have loved watching them this summer (against Australia). There is so much talent and I am sure they are going to be a force in years to come,” Hussey told the Press Trust of India (PTI).

“The current players in the Indian team are adept at handling the short ball really well. That is what I have seen in the Test series (l. 0-2 to Australia),” he added further.

Hussey, however, believes that this Indian side won’t be able to make the last-four stage and that Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and Sri Lanka are most likely to go through to the semi-finals.

“My semi-final line-up will be Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka,” 39-year-old Hussey opined.

India opened their title defense in style with a 112-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday. Up next, they are scheduled to square-off against South Africa at Melbourne a week after their opener.
