Australia selectors have included explosive batsman, Glenn Maxwell, for the ongoing T20I series against South Africa, after the hosts’ batting order looked rusty in the series opener on Wednesday, which eventually played a significant role in their miserable loss.

Optimistically acknowledging the insertion, Australia T20I skipper Aaron Finch said that Maxwell’s addition to the team will bolster the side’s batting department in the rest of the two matches.

“We’ve seen how good he (Maxwell) is in the shortest format of the game,” Finch was quoted as saying by The Sydney Morning Herald.

“He also gives us another option for the ball. With so many left-handers in the side, he was probably the type of player we could have done with tonight, an off-spinning all-rounder who can pinch an over here and there.”

Earlier, a deprived performance with the bat by Australia had helped South Africa take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match T20I series. The hosts could just manage to put up 144 runs on the board, before the visitors chased down the facile target with an over to spare.

The second and the third T20I will be played in Melbourne and Sydney respectively.
