Bangladesh amazingly chased 214 runs in T20I

Team Bangladesh is not as one of the top rated team in T20I competition but they are good in ODI format and placed on 7th position on ICC ODI ranking. But in T20I, they are almost low rated team considering ICC T20I ranking. They are on 10th position on the T20I ranking. They are now participating in Nidahas Trophy which has staged at Sri Lanka. Along with the host team Sri Lanka, two guest teams Bangladesh and India have taken part there. So, this is a tri nation T20I competition where in the 3rd match of the tournament, Bangladesh amazingly chased 214 runs in T20I against the local team Sri Lanka.

In the first match of the tournament, this Sri Lanka defeated India by 5 wickets. But in the 2nd match, India beat Bangladesh by 6 wickets. And in 3rd ODI, the Tigers beat the Lions by five wickets. So, after the three matches, all teams won one match each. Now, each team has one match left and considering the winning statistics, top two teams will play the final of the tournament.

The 3rd match which was between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh was staged in 10th March, 2018 at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. It was a day/ night competition where Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bowl first.

The local team Sri Lanka started the match very destructively and dominated the Tigers bowlers completely. With Gunathilaka and Mendis, Sri Lanka started the match. They added 56 runs in the opening partnership in just 4.3 overs. Bowlers were too expensive in the match. Gunathilaka was gone with 26 runs. Later, Mendis and Perera started to bat and took several shots. Mendis scored 57 runs in 30 balls and Perera scored highest 74 runs in 48 balls so far. Among rest players, Tharanga remain not out with 32 runs so far. So, by losing six wickets Sri Lanka finished their innings scoring 214 runs. For Bangladesh Mustafizur took three wickets so far.

214 runs in T20I competition was too heavy and almost impossible to chase. But the Tigers made things possible. With Tamim and Liton Das, the Tigers made a good start. Openers added 74 runs in 5.5 overs when Liton Das was gone with 43 runs so far. Tamim scored 47 runs as well. Later, Soumya came up and added 24 runs. Basically Mushfiqur Rahim played very well. In just 35 balls he scored undefeated 72 runs and left the field with victory. Captain Mahmudullah scored 20 runs so far. By losing five wickets in 19.4 overs Bangladesh made the chase successful.
