Jeetan Patel, who last played for New Zealand in 2013, is set to make his comeback in the ongoing four-match Test series against hosts India.

The 36-year-old has been named as the replacement for fellow off-spinner Mark Craig, who suffered a side strain while bowling during the first Test in Kanpur.

Patel, who has 52 wickets from 19 Tests under his belt, has been in fine form of late, having finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker (69) in the County season recently.

Welcoming the replacement, coach Mike Hesson said: “Jeetan is up to speed from a bowling load perspective having recently completed a successful county season – so he will be ready for the rigours of Test cricket. He’ll also add invaluable experience to our young spin group.”

The second Test is scheduled to begin from September 30 in Kolkata.
