Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle disapproved Rising Pune Supergiants’ (RPS) captain MS Dhoni’s approach after he failed to anchor his team to a win against Virat-Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium in Pune on Friday.

In their quest to chase down RCB’s total of 185-3, the RPS lost two early wickets in Faf du Plessis (2) and Steven Smith (4). Concerns piled on for them after Kevin Pietersen walked off the field without scoring a run due to a calf injury, forcing the skipper to make a premature appearance.

Dhoni, then, clearly looked to run through overs as he stitched a patient 91-run partnership with Ajinkya Rahane (60), but gave up his wicket with a 38-ball 41 as the hosts fell 13 runs short of the target to concede their third loss in four matches.

The captain’s approach didn’t go down well with Bhogle, who took it to Twitter to express disappointment.

“Typical Dhoni. Keeps you on the edge of your seat thinking it’s going to be this over that he has a go!” he wrote, before tweeting: “180+ run chase. 41 (38) can’t win it for you. Some days it might come off but most days it won’t from there.”
