Vasyl Lomachenko has revealed an advice from his father helped him beat Jorge Linares and win the WBA Super lightweight belt at the Madison Square Garden, New York, on Saturday night.

The Olympic gold medallist became the fastest three-division world champion as he came off the canvas in the sixth round before stopping his Venezuelan counterpart with a vicious liver shot in the tenth round.

“I prepared for the last few rounds and my father told me, ‘You need to go to the body’,” Lomachenko said of his dad Anatoly, who also happens to be his trainer.

“Linares is a great champion, and the fight was good for the fans and everybody. It was a great fight,” he added.

Lomachenko, who previously held the WBO featherweight and WBO super featherweight titles, is scheduled to make the first defense of his new belt in about three months’ time.

The Ukrainian ‘Hi Tech’ will fight in California come August 25 against a yet-to-be-decided opponent.
