Sports can be cruel at times. And, Genaddy Golovkin — more famously known as GGG — learned the hard way.

The unbeaten Kazakh pugilist was busy preparing for the biggest fight of his career against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, when his wife Alina Golovkina welcomed the couple’s second child – a baby girl.

However, GGG doesn’t mind the business coming first. “It was no problem. I am very happy for this but we know my business comes first,” the 35-year-old was quoted as saying by The Sun.

“The baby would come without me being there. I had done my part,” he continued. “Of course, I went to see my wife and baby as soon as I could. But this fight with Canelo is the most important of my career. As it is for him.”

GGG’s trainer Abel Sanchez also reiterated that the excitement of his fighter’s second kid did not eclipse the excicitement to take on Canelo.

“He said, ‘Coach, the baby is going to come whether I’m there or not. I have to train’,” Sanchez said.

“Gennady is smiling a lot not only for the birth but also because he finally has this big fight and that frustration is over.”

GGG and Canelo will vie for IBF, IBA, WBC, WBA world middleweight belts at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas come Saturday.
