The Australian Open 2015 lost its second seed on Friday after Roger Federer was shown the door by Italian journeyman Andreas Seppi in the third-round encounter at the infamous Rod Laver Arena.

The Swiss maestro never looked at ease throughout his 6-4 7-6 4-6 7-6 defeat from his unseeded adversary, eventually making his earliest egress from the prestigious tournament Down Under in the last 14 seasons.

Meanwhile, the men’s event didn’t see any further casualties as other seeds – Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Tomas Berdych and Grigor Dimitrov – powered through to the pre-quarterfinals.

Besides Nadal’s 6-0 6-1 7-5 win over Dudi Sela, sixth-seeded Murray shrugged off little resistance from Portuguese Joao Sousa (6-1 6-1 7-5), while 7th seed Berdych also had a routine day in the office, toppling Serbian Viktor Troicki (6-4 6-3 6-4) in the other third-round battle.

10th seed Dimitrov was stretched to the wire by former finalist Marcos Baghdatis, who almost caused a huge upset before going down 6-4 3-6 6-3 3-6 3-6 in a grueling 5-setter.
