British superstar Amir Khan (31-3-0) is relishing the underdog status ahead of his much-awaited fight against Mexican Canelo Alvarez (46-1-1), who is being touted as the favorite to defend the WBC middleweight title at the Las Vegas Arena on May 7.

“This is the first time going into a fight where I’m the underdog, I’m a guy who’s supposed to get beat, so that’s why I want to really shine this fight and I want to prove to people that I belong here,” Khan was quoted as saying by badlefthook.

The 25-year-old Canelo, who is known for his resistance, will clearly have a psychological edge over his opponent, owing to a better track record. Khan, however, insists that the world will see “a new Amir Khan” when he enters the ring this time around.

Khan, a silver medalist at the 2004 Athens Olympics, further added that the experience as an amateur will further bolster his odds of upsetting his fancied adversary. “I think that’s something that’s going to work in my advantage.”
