Oleksandr Usyk (16-0, 12 KOs) has been backed to make a successful transition to heavyweight category following his latest win.

The 2012 Olympic champion overcame a slow start to earn an eighth-round stoppage of Tony Bellew to remain the undisputed cruiserweight champion.

Usyk, who has had a fair share of wins in the 90.7 kilograms-limit division, has long been in talks for a move up the heavyweight heavyweight division and fight Anthony Joshua (22-0, 21 KOs), the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO champion.

And, British promoter Eddie Hearn was quick to make a note of some possible opponents for Usyk.

“He will want to move into heavyweight and get comfortable,” Hearn was quoted as saying by Independent.

“I would like him to come to Whyte vs Chisora. There is Parker, Takam, Miller, Povetkin. But he will tell me the kind of fights that he wants.

“And if he comes back to Britain it has to be a British heavyweight. But I am sure he will want a fight to progress and then challenge for the world heavyweight title.”

The man himself, however, was keen to enjoy some time off before thinking about his future.

“This has been a very successful year but it has also been the toughest year of my career,” Usyk said through a translator following his win.

“So right now my primary concern is my rest. And I want to spend some time with my family.”
