Madison Keys Wins Second Career Title in Birmingham, Set to Break into Top 10
Madison Keys is all set to break into the top 10 of the WTA rankings after she won her second career title following a 6-3 6-4 conquest of Barbara Strycova in the final of the Aegon Classic in Birmingham.
The seventh-seeded American consolidated her serve throughout the match as she improved to 3-1 against her unseeded opponent from Czech Republic after battling out for one hour and 20 minutes.
Keys opened up a 3-0 lead in the first set, and kept it intact to take an early lead. She, then, rallied from 3-4 down on serve to snatch three consecutive games to take the trophy home, along with 470 ranking points and $146,200 as prize money.
The 21-year-old’s power-packed dominance reflects from the fact that she hit as many as 27 winners against 7 of Strycova, as she recorded her second career triumph, having precisely emerged victorious at Eastbourne back in 2014.
Keys will now join top-ranked countrywoman Serena Williams in the top 10 when the WTA released the latest rankings on Monday.
