WTA Stuttgart: Carla Suarez Navarro Survives Scare; Ana Ivanovic Stunned in Opener
8th seed Carla Suarez Navarro survived a scare to reach the second round of the WTA Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. The Spaniard overcome a stiff fight from Russian Evgeniya Rodina, winning 6-2 6-7 6-4 in a grueling opening-round clash that went on for 2 hours and 12 minutes.
World No. 20 Garbine Muguruza also went through to the second round of the tournament, following her 6-1 6-4 conquest of Czech Republic’s Barbora Zahlavova Strycova in the other match up.
However, 5th seed Ana Ivanovic’s appalling form continued after she put up a substandard performance to lose out to lower-ranked Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia 7-6 6-4 in the first round.
