2^nd seed Monica Puig easily progressed to the quarterfinals of the WTA International Claro Open Colsanitas in Bogota after brushing aside American journeywoman Nicole Gibbs on Thursday.

The 21-year-old Puerto Rican needed one hour and 24 minutes to pull off a dominating 6-4 6-2 triumph in the second-round encounter here.

Puig, however, faces a tough task ahead, as she has been slated to cross the swords with 8^th seed Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan in the last-eight stage. Interestingly, the latter has won both her previous meeting against the former on the women’s tour.

“I know Slava (Shvedova) quite well. We did a lot of pre-season together in Spain,” Puig was quoted as per saying by the official WTA website. “It’s going to be a really tough match and I’ll have to be on my toes, but I’m feeling really good here.”
