WATCH: Bizarre moment at Italian Open as play is interrupted after cat invades court
Proceedings at the Italian Open in Rome were briefly delayed on Friday – not due to rain or any injury concerns… but because of a cat.
Yes, you read that right!
A feline invaded the court out of nowhere during a men’s doubles quarterfinal between Juan Sebastian Cabal/ Robert Farah and Lukasz Kubot/ Marcelo Melo.
Since the players were in the middle of a rally, an overhead winner from Melo almost hit the cat, who was galloping from the one end of the net to the other. Fortunately, though, she managed to get out of the way in time.
Phew, that was close!
The chair umpire, however, declared it a dead point before Cabal and Farah went on to pull off a 6-3 7-6 win over the No. 1 seeds.
They will next meet Jamie Murray/ Bruno Soares for a place in the final.
