Viktor Troicki Shocked in First Round of ATP Bucharest
6th seed Viktor Troicki faced a stunning first-round defeat to Spain’s Daniel Gimeno-Traver at the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy on Monday.
The sixth-seeded Serb squandered a one-set lead to lose out to his lower-ranked counterpart 5-7 6-3 6-1 in the opening-round battle that went on for two hours.
18-year-old Croatian Borna Coric also advanced to the second round of the tournament after pulling off a nail-biting 6-2 6-7 7-6 triumph against Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky.
In the other first-round encounters, Russian veteran Mikhail Youzhny rallied from first-set blackout to overcome Marius Copil of Romania, 1-6 6-4 6-3; while Tunisian Malek Jaziri defeated Germany’s Florian Mayer 4-6 6-4 7-5.
The Tuesday’s action will see seeds Kei Nishikori, Roberto Bautista Agut, and Tommy Robredo fighting on the court.
