Rafael Nadal reveals that ‘only pressure’ he has heading into Acapulco
Rafael Nadal has said that he’s not looking to regain the No. 1 ranking, but there’s something else that is on his mind.
The Spaniard, who recently conceded the numero uno position to Swiss arch-rival Roger Federer, will be competing at this week’s ATP 500 event in Acapulco, Mexico, with nothing but personal expectations.
“I do not feel that I should win the tournament because I am a favorite, I come here to give my maximum, the only pressure is the personal demand that I put on myself,” the 31-year-old was quoted as saying.
A positive outcome at the clay-court event should see Nadal get back to the apex of rankings. But, that’s not what he’s playing for.
“Neither Roger nor I have looked for that position, we have built our calendars without thinking about it and the situations have taken us there,” he said.
“I am playing in Acapulco because I love this tournament.”
Nadal, the top seed, is scheduled to open his campaign against compatriot Feliciano Lopez.
