Martin Klizan, Daniel Gimeno-Traver to Square-Off in Casablanca Final
2nd seed Martin Klizan of Slovak Republic and unseeded Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver are all set to lock horns in the summit clash of the ATP Grand Prix Hassan II in Casablanca after the duo overcame the semifinal hurdle on Saturday.
While Klizan had to dig deep to turn down a stiff challenge from Bosnian Damir Dzumhur 4-6 6-4 6-0, Gimeno-Traver also rallied from a set down to upset 3rd seed Jiri Vesely of Czech Republic 6-7 6-4 6-4.
Gimeno-Traver, who will be featuring in his first final, told the ATP website: ““It was a difficult match. Maybe I was a bit too much on defense during the first set, but then I started to play more aggressively, and I felt well during all my service games. I’m very happy to reach my first final here in Casablanca.”
Meanwhile in the doubles event, the unseeded combination of Rameez Junaid and Adil Shamasdin ousted top seeds Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea by clinching a 3-6 6-2 10-7 triumph to storm into the title-clash.
