Maria Sharapova Pips Ana Ivanovic for Brisbane International Trophy
Maria Sharapova clinched the Brisbane International title on Saturday after pulling off an intriguing three-set conquest of Ana Ivanovic in the title-clash.
The top-seeded Russian prevailed in a grueling encounter that lasted for 2 hours and 38 minutes, winning 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 over her Serbian counterpart.
“We always go in and compete. We don’t give up until the end. I think that’s what makes our matches so great,” Sharapova was quoted as saying by WTA Tennis.
“She had some great comebacks. She got back the balls that I thought weren’t coming over the net,” Ivanovic reflected. “That’s why she’s where she is, and that’s why she’s such a great champion.”
By the virtue of this triumph, Sharapova enhanced her head-to-head record against Ivanovic by 9-4.
