It turned out to be an uncomplicated day in the office for the seeds at the ATP 500 Barcelona Open on Tuesday.

Top seed Kei Nishikori put up a dominating performance to pull off a 6-3 6-4 conquest of Russian journeyman Teymuraz Gabashvili. Besides emerging unbroken on his serve, the fifth-ranked Japanese won 90 percent of his first-serve points to progress into the quarterfinals.

7^th seed Roberto Bautista Agut also clinched an identical triumph. The Spaniard ruled on his supreme first serve to score a 6-3 6-4 win against 75^th-ranked Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci to sail into the last-eight stage of the tournament.

It was, however, the end of the road for Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco, who suffered s stunning 7-6 6-3 defeat from the hands of 17-year-old Russian Andrey Rublev in the opening-round encounter.
