Former World No. 5 Tommy Robredo to Miss US Open 2016
Former World No. 5 Tommy Robredo is set to give the next week’s US Open 2016 a miss after he failed to recover from an elbow injury in time.
Robredo, who went under the knife to get his elbow issues fixed, was slated to make his return at the season-ending Grand Slam. He, however, took to his official Instagram account to divulge that the wait is still on, even though his comeback is nearing.
“Unfortunately I did not get to #usopen but I’m very very close to returning to competition,” he wrote as the caption alongside a picture of his lunging at the gymnasium.
The 34-year-old hasn’t played a match since suffering a hat-trick of defeats in February earlier this year. He last played at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, where he was handed a straight-set thrashing by World No.1 Novak Djokovic in the tournament opener.
The US Open is scheduled to commence from August 29.
