ATP Houston: Sam Querrey, Jack Sock Set Up All-American Final
Americans Sam Querrey and Jack Sock overcame their respective semifinal counterparts on Saturday to set up an All-American title-clash at the ATP Houston – US Men’s Clay Court Championship.
No. 8 seed Sam Querrey fired 16 aces to pull off a grueling 7-5 2-6 6-4 victory over Spain’s Fernando Verdasco, whereas 46th-ranked Jack Sock stunned 3rd seed Kevin Anderson of South Africa 7-6 6-3 in the last-four stage.
“I got in a rhythm, made a lot of first serves and it’s tough to beat me when I’m doing that,” Querrey told the official ATP website. “I’ve been playing well all week and I’m excited to be back in a final.”
This will be the first ever meeting between Querrey and Sock, when the two lock fists on Sunday here.
Foreseeing a complicated battle ahead, Querrey added: “I’ve known Jack for four years. We both want to win a final. I’m confident and he’s confident. It’s going to be tough.”
