WATCH: Denis Shapovalov nails stunning no-look backhand shot against Kei Nishikori
Denis Shapovalov may have had a disappointing day in the office on Thursday night, but he put on a spectacle for his fans during his Citi Open pre-quarterfinal match against Japan’s Kei Nishikori.
At 1-1 40-15 in the second set, the rising Canadian star showed off his fine control by unleashing a no-look backhand shot from close the baseline.
His effort, however, didn’t help him seize the momentum as the 9th seed went on to lose 6-7 (1) 3-6 to Nishirkori, the 7th seed, in one hour and 42 minutes.

This is not the first though that Shapovalov has stunned one and all with his impulsive backhand.
During his Rogers Cup quarter-final against Adrian Mannarino last year, the 19-year-old pulled off a stunning crosscourt backhand off a turnaround.
His effort was applauded by Mannarino, and the spectators of course (see video below).
DID YOU KNOW? Denis Shapovalov has lost more matches than he has lost since the grass-court season (3-5).
