WATCH: Gael Monfils suffers nasty fall as he bows out of Sao Paulo
It was a painful day in the office for Gael Monfils at the ATP 250 Sao Paulo on Friday, quite literally.
The Frenchman, seeded fourth, stumbled to a 3-6 6-3 3-6 defeat at the hands of Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos in the second-round encounter.
That was not the only misery.
While serving at 1-4 in the first set, Monfils rushed on to the net in an attempt to return a cross-court forehand from Zeballos.
It was then that he lost his balance and suffered a nasty fall, promoting medics to rush in and check a writhing Monfils.
Fortunately, he recovered enough to continue the match, although he went on to lose in a grueling battle that lasted two hours and four minutes.
As for Zeballos, he moves on to the quarter-finals to meet Brazilian Rogerio Duta Silva.
