Victoria Azarenka eyes more on-court duels with mum-to-be Serena Williams
Former World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka has set her eyes upon renewing rivalry with 23-time Grand Slam champions Serena Williams when the two make their comeback on court.
While Azarenka has been away from tennis for about a year now as she gave birth to her son Leo in December, Serena recently announced that she’s expecting a child soon.
In an interview with the New York Times, the 27-year-old Azarenka quipped of how she and Serena are living in the similar terrains at the moment.
“I know that Serena was asking me a lot of questions about babies when she came by my house, and I didn’t really make anything of that,” the two-time Australian Open winner said.
“I knew it was going to be in her life at some point. I didn’t know it was happening now.”
Azarenka, who has won four out of her 21 encounters with Williams, further said: “With the Grand Slams, it’s me who has to catch up to her, and she has to catch up to me with the baby.
“It’s a funny timing, but I do hope she is coming back, and we can have some more of our battles because she’s one of the people I can’t imagine the tour without.”
