Bengals Place Marvin Jones On Season-Ending Injured Reserve
Following a 2013 season that saw him explode for 10 touchdowns, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Marvin Jones was set for a huge year as the compliment to star wideout A.J. Green.
However, Jones has unfortunately been unable to get on the field after sustaining an ankle sprain at the outset of training camp, an injury that eventually turned into a broken foot. Jones rehabbed and was set to make his season debut in Week 5, but he suffered yet another setback when he tweaked his ankle in his first practice back.
The team feared that Jones would require surgery for the injury and sent him to a foot/ankle specialist today (Tues., October 14, 2014). The diagnosis was apparently not a positive one, as NFL Insider Albert Breer just reported that the team has placed Jones on the season-ending injured reserve list:
Bengals have placed WR Marvin Jones on IR, ending his season. Tough blow for the offense.

It’s another huge blow to the decimated Bengals receiving corps, which is currently without Green as he attempts to heal up from the nagging toe injury that has slowed him since Week 2.
Sitting at 3-1-1 after a Week 6 tie with Carolina, the Bengals have largely been able to deal with the adversity thanks to the improving play of emerging receiver Mohamed Sanu.
Still, having Jones in the fray alongside Sanu and a healthy Green would have undoubtedly given Cincinnati an inside track to winning the NFC North. Their defense, once a stifling unit at the beginning of the year, has now allowed an absurd 78 points in the last two games, so Cincinnati needs all the offensive firepower they can muster.
Although no official word has surfaced, Jones could still require surgery on his left foot. He is signed through 2015.
