India Draw Sydney Test, Australia Clinch Series 2-0
India played out all the overs on the fifth and final day on Saturday to hold Australia for a draw at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Earlier, riding on centuries from Steve Smith and David Warner, the hosts amassed 572-7 in the first innings. In response, Virat Kohli and Lokesh Rahul smashed tons to bolster India to 475 runs in the first innings.
In the second essay, Australia declared at 251-6 to setup a 349-run target for India in 90 overs, who ultimately survived the day at 252-7.
“India hung on well. We did not get there, but I am really proud of the boys’ efforts,” skipper Smith said after the match, as quoted by CricBuzz.
Moving on from the Sydney Test, the two teams now shift to the one-day international format of the sports, which also involves England in the triangular series Down Under.
