Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin could next fight Miguel Cotto, says promoter Tom Loeffler
Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin is likely to trade punches with Miguel Cotto before a possible rematch with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, his promoter Tom Loeffler has said.
GGG (37-0-1, 33 KOs) retained his middleweight belts after a controversial draw against Canelo (49-1-2, 34 KOs) last week — a contest, which many felt, was controlled by the Kazakh pugilist.
“A legend like Cotto is a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame. This is the type of fight that would motivate Gennady,” Loeffler told Sky Sports.
Cotto (41-5-0, 33 KOs) returned to the ring last month after a gap of almost two years to win the vacant WBO World Super Welterweight belt against Yoshihiro Kamegai on points.
Loeffler added GGG wants to go on for a few more years despite age catching up. “He said he could fight for another five years,” Loeffler said of his 35-year-old boxer.
“Gennady’s style of punching power doesn’t diminish — like we saw with George Foreman. The power-punching is (the attribute) that goes last, with an older fighter.”
