Roger Federer hints at French Open comeback in future
Ever hope to see Roger Federer compete at French Open again? Well, your wish could be fulfilled.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion skipped the premier clay-court event for the second year running in a quest to stay afresh for the grass swing, putting a question mark on his future participation at the event that he won back in 2009.
However, Federer has said that he hopes to give it one more shot before calling a time on his career.
“I really want to return to compete at Roland Garros before the end of my career,” the 36-year-old was quoted as saying by bolamarela.pt.
Federer further added that he has to strike a balance between his personal and professional life too.
“In conversation with my team we decided that my schedule had to be that way. I have four children, woman and other things in life. At my age, my calendar can not be the same as it was.”
The Swiss ace, who reclaimed the No. 1 ranking earlier this year but recently relinquished it to arch-rival Rafael Nadal, said that getting back to the numero uno position is not on his mind.
“It’s not about the rankings, because that’s not a goal anymore. I worked to get back to that position this year, it was nice to do it at my age, but fighting for it is not a priority.”
