Jasprit Bumrah reacts to Virat Kohli’s ‘cheating’ incident during IPL match
Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli found himself under the scanner after he stood his ground despite edging one off Mumbai Indians’ Jasprit Bumrah during their Indian Premier League (IPL) contest on Tuesday night.
During the 14th over of RCB’s innings, Kohli nicked a back-of-a-length delivery from Bumrah that landed straight into wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan’s gloves. Blame it on the vociferous crowd or what, no one apparently heard anything.
While Kohli was unmoved, on-field umpire Nitin Menon also didn’t have any decision to make. Replays, however, showed that there was a connection between the bat and the ball.
And, social media was quick to lash out at Kohli, labelling the Indian captain a ‘cheat’.
Bumrah, though, was quick to shrug it off during the post-match presentation. “I got to hear from dug-out that he [Kohli] was out and I heard that there was an edge. I didn’t hear the edge, even the wicketkeeper didn’t hear it. But that’s okay.
“In the next over, Hardik [Pandya] got his wicket so I am really happy.”
After scoring 167-7 in 20 overs, RCB went on restrict MI to 153-7 to clinch a 14-run win and keep their playoff hopes alive. As for MI, they will now have to win all their remaining fixtures to be in with a chance of making it to the knockouts.
