WATCH: Slovak tennis player Jozef Kovalik almost hits ball girl with racket at Barcelona Open
Jozef Kovalik survived a disqualification scare on Thursday after he almost hit a ball girl with his racket – inadvertently, of course.
Playing against 3rd seed Dominic Thiem of Austria in the third round of the ATP 500 Barcelona Open, the Slovak lucky loser conceded a closely-contest first set in the tie-breaker.
The frustration was clearly evident on his face as he banged his racket at changeover, scaring off a ball girl who was holding umbrella for him.
Luckily, though, it didn’t hit her, avoiding any sort of a disqualification scare.
Kovalik couldn’t really find back composure from there on as he went on to lose the match 6-7 6-2 in one hour and 43 minutes.
As for Thiem, he advanced to the quarter-finals to set up a date with Greek young gun Stefanos Tsitsipas.
