Ouch! Stanislas Wawrinka’s powerful forehand floors Martin Klizan [VIDEO]
Martin Klizan didn’t have the best of the starts at the Australian Open 2017 on Monday.
Despite putting up a brave fight, the Slovakian tennis player extended his losing streak to 10 matches after he went down fighting 4-6 6-4 7-5 4-6 6-4 to three-time Grand Slam champion Stanislas Wawrinka in the first round in Melbourne.
But, that was not it. Klizan also took a painful blow during the marathon rubber. During the fifth set, Wawrinka hit a quick backhand that set Klizan up at the net. Assuming that his unclean response won’t win him the point, the latter gave up and just stood at the net.
Wawrinka, however, didn’t take it lightly as he smashed the lofted ball straight in between Klizan’s legs. A concerned Wawrinka, then, hurried to check Klizan, who sat down for a while before resuming the play again.
Phew, that was indeed very close!
