Scottish welterweight boxer Mike Towell passed away in hospital after being knocked out in a professional bout against Welshman Dale Evans in Glasgow.

According to reports, Towell was floored twice before being stopped in the fifth round. He was, then, stretchered off the ring to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to severe brain bleeding and swelling.

The 25-year-old had stepped into the contest as an unbeaten fighter with an impressive 11-0-1 record.

However, his girlfriend Chloe Ross took to Facebook to reveal that Towell had been complaining of headache since the last few weeks but they “put it down to migraines.”

As soon as the news surfaced over the internet, the boxing world poured in tributes on Twitter.
