VIDEO: Gael Monfils Dismantles Courtside Clock at US Open 2016
Gael Monfils accidentally dismantled a courtside clock at the US Open while attempting a high backhand return during his first-round match against Gilles Muller on Monday.
It happened so on Court 17, when Monfils galloped his way back beyond the baseline in a gutsy attempt to return a shot, only to go head-on with the clock. Although it fell onto the court before being reduced to snippets, Monfils just about evaded its wrath, as can be seen in the video below.
This, however, didn’t impede the Frenchman from getting his campaign off to a winning start as he pulled off a straight-set 6-4 6-2 7-6 conquest of his Luxembourgish opponent.
Moving on, he has been drawn to square-off against Czech Republic’s Jan Satral in the second round here.
