VIDEO: Martina Hingis’ Powerful Volley Leaves Andrea Hlavackova in Tears at Rio Olympics
In a freakish incident, Andrea Hlavackova was felled by a powerful forehand volley off Martina Hingis during their doubles encounter at the Rio Olympics on Friday.
Hlavackova, representing the Czech Republic alongside countrywoman Lucie Hradecka, had a match point at 7-5 5-4 up against Switzerland’s Hingis and Timea Bacsinszky, when it all came about.
Hingis rushed towards the net only to fire a forehand straight on to Hlavackova’s face, who immediately tripped and burst into tears.
No wonder, the incident played a huge role in turning the match around as the Swiss duo not only saved the match point, but also went on the pull off the semi-final battle, 5-7 7-6 6-2.
