Novak Djokovic Eases, Serena Williams Survives Scare to Reach Roland Garros Semis
Top seed Novak Djokovic was at his usual best as he sailed past Czech Republic’s 7th seed Tomas Berdych to move into the semi-finals of the Roland Garros 2016. The Serb superstar hardly broke a sweat en route a 6-3 7-5 6-3 triumph to enter his 30th Grand Slam semi-final.
Up next for him awaits 13th-seeded Austrian Dominic Thiem, who extended his dream run at the tournament following a 4-6 7-6 6-4 6-1 conquest of Belgian 12th seed David Goffin.
In the women’s division, top-seeded Serena Williams rallied from the brink of defeat to outlast unseeded Yulia Putintseva in a three-set thriller. The American powerhouse overcame a one-set deficit to complete a 5-7 6-4 6-1 victory against her inspired 60th-ranked adversary.
She next faces an unheralded opponent in Dutch Kiki Bertens, who upset 8th seed Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland 7-5 6-2 in the other quarter-final encounter.
